Identity
(2019)
'Identity' was the product of GCSE Photography coursework. We were given a choice of words to use as a stimulus, and I was drawn to 'identity' as it could go in so many directions. For my work, I chose to show identity regarding sexuality and self-expression. Each individual shoot within this project has its own message being portrayed regarding the chosen topic.
One key element I wanted to work on for this project was the use of colour and lighting, as well as symbolic make-up. Up to this point in my photography, I hadn't delved too deep into significance of colour, and hadn't experimented with different lighting. As for make-up, I had recently watched the HBO show 'Euphoria', (created by Sam Levinson) and was captivated by Donniella Davy's use of make-up to convey the story of each character. I was inspired to incorporate this into my own work, and created make-up looks influenced by the show, hence the use of make-up evident in the first two shoots. The three elements tied in nicely with one another, so I decided I would focus heavily on them throughout my shoots.
